BESPOKE TIMBER FINISHES
Selecting the perfect floor for your space is more than just about the colour; it’s about understanding the coating, the maintenance, and how it will withstand the demands of everyday life. At Bespoke, we recognize the significance of this decision, which is why we offer a comprehensive range of custom timber finishes.
Crafting the perfect look for your space involves a delicate balance of selection and application, a process we’ve mastered through years of expertise. With us, you’re not just getting a floor coating; you’re getting a solution designed specifically for you.
COATING FINISH OPTIONS
LACQUERED FINISH
Lacquered floors offer a striking finish and boast much greater durability compared to oiled floors. If you lead a busy lifestyle and need your flooring to withstand daily wear and tear, lacquered floors are the perfect choice for your home.
Maintenance for lacquered floors is simple; we recommend a specific cleaner, and beyond that, your care routine is minimal. With endless colour options available, your floor is guaranteed to look stunning and stand the test of time.
Our top choice for lacquer coating is UV lacquer. This specially formulated product instantly cures under UV light, providing the toughest possible protection for your floors. But it’s important to note that UV lacquer isn’t a “sunblock for floors” as commonly misunderstood; all floors will naturally change colour over time. While we also offer high-quality waterborne polyurethanes, which can be applied on-site, we’ve found that the durability of UV lacquer surpasses these options, making it our preferred finish.
When it’s time for floor refinishing down the road, full re-sanding will be necessary. However, considering that many people change homes approximately every seven years, it’s likely that you won’t need this during your time in your current residence.
Oiled Finish
There’s nothing quite as stunning as a well-oiled timber floor. The oil brings out the natural grain, creating a captivating two-dimensional effect. Plus, there’s a vast array of colour options to choose from, and walking on it feels absolutely amazing.
However, maintaining an oiled floor requires more effort compared to a lacquered one. Traditionally, oiled floors used natural coatings with a linseed oil base. While these look fantastic, they offer minimal protection, demanding frequent oil applications to keep the floor nourished. Nowadays, we still use similar products, but thanks to technological advancements, we’ve made significant progress.
In our systems, we always incorporate either a hard wax oil or UV oil finish, significantly boosting the floor’s durability. Though regular upkeep is still necessary, it’s not as burdensome as with previous coating methods. You will just need to use the correct products and have a professional periodically apply a maintenance coat. This is less intrusive than a recoat and can normally be completed in a day, with minimal disruption to your household. You will also be glad to know that an oiled finish can easily repair small scratches on the spot, reviving your floor instantly.
If you are thinking there’s too much to remember, don’t worry. We always provide a comprehensive maintenance guide with each purchase to ensure you know the best practices for maintaining your floor!

HARD WAX OIL VS POLYURETHANE FINISH
THE PROS AND CONS
HARD WAX OIL
PROS
CONS
Provides the feel of real timber under your feet
Contains a depth of colour that enhances the character of the timber
Easy to clean and water-resistant
Looks amazing over time if maintained properly.
Scuffs and spot touch ups are easy to apply, even for homeowners who don’t want to get a professional in.
While it looks amazing with proper maintenance, you will need to apply a maintenance coat in 2-5 years depending on wear - dont stress too much, this is an easy and economic process
Hard wax floors require more frequent cleaning with specific soaps to keep its sheen.
Not as hard-wearing as polyurethane.
POLYURETHANE
PROS
CONS
We use non-toxic polyurethane products, so it is safe for our team to use during application.
Available in many colours and tints to enhance the colour palette
Easy to clean and water-resistant
Easily the most durable floor finish available
You can’t change your mind and coat an oil-based finish over a water-based polyurethane coating.
Touch up patches are difficult to blend with the surrounding areas and will most likely need a professional to do it.
Over time, the scuffs and scratches can only be fixed with a recoat. Recoats look best once every ten years or so, depending on how much traffic uses the floor.
